Daehee Kim, CEO of ModigenceVision, provides customized 3D vision solutions optimized for the application fields and characteristics of customer products. Customized production is based on a diverse lineup of 2D/3D cameras, SoCs, and interface modules.
ModigenceVision is a company that develops and manufactures customized hardware and software related to 3D vision systems. It was founded by CEO Daehee Kim in June 2023. CEO Kim has a Ph.D. in image engineering from the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science at Chung-Ang University, where he studied image processing, computer vision-based image analysis and improvement, object detection and recognition, and 3D vision processing.
Based on his knowledge of image engineering, he worked for about seven years at ‘N’, a camera module manufacturer. During his tenure, he was in charge of Stereo Vision and ToF (Time of Flight) camera modules, process facilities, and mass production process setup, and has experience supplying robot vacuum cleaners and medical devices to ‘S’, a major domestic company. Based on this experience, he founded ModigenceVision.
CEO Kim said, “The company name ModigenceVision means ‘gathering and distributing technology’,” and introduced it as “a company that develops and manufactures hardware and software related to 3D vision systems based on image sensor-based camera modules and 3D camera modules.”
ModigenceVision’s target markets include robots and smart systems (smart factories, smart farms, etc.), defense, medicine, and other fields. CEO Kim said, “We expect that the depth data obtained from the 3D camera will be applied to products and fields that require autonomous driving, digital twins, and 3D analysis.” He added, “In particular, vision systems are being introduced to various fields and products due to the development of artificial intelligence, and their applications are expected to expand further.”
ModigenceVision’s flagship item is a 3D camera module. Currently, two types of camera modules are in prototype development based on the ToF sensor, with the goal of launching them in March 2025. The products are delivered to customers as DVK (development kits) for testing and promotion. In the future, they will be designed, developed, and manufactured in a customized manner to reflect customer needs.
“ModigenceVision’s business is in the B2B format, where the camera module is used as a component in the customer’s product. At this time, peripheral devices (RGB camera, SoC board, interface board, camera driver, etc.) are required so that the customer can use the camera module freely. Therefore, we provide convenience by configuring a customized package with the camera module to reflect the customer’s needs. In particular, many prospective customers lack the technology and manpower for vision systems. Therefore, ModigenceVision provides 3D vision system and algorithm development services.”
Existing 3D cameras are off-the-shelf products, so customers must purchase them and develop products according to the components. However, ModigenceVision’s camera modules can be optimized for customers’ products, enabling them to create the best solutions.
“ModigenceVision’s ToF camera module can be developed with high resolution, long distance, and fewer resources compared to existing ToF-based camera modules. And because it is manufactured by removing unnecessary functions, it can be produced at a lower price than off-the-shelf products. We support software technologies related to camera drivers and systems required to apply the camera module. This reduces time and cost, and when 3D vision algorithms and applications are required, we provide services to support customers’ areas of weakness (human resources, technology).”
ModigenceVision was selected for FreeTips in December 2024 and attracted seed investment from 99 Degrees Investment Association No. 1. In 2025, it plans to pursue deep-tech TIPS and attract additional investment.
Regarding his motivation for starting the business, CEO Kim said:
“The structure of Korea’s camera module industry is focused on mass production, such as mobile and automotive, and prioritizes manufacturing capabilities rather than self-development. As a result, small businesses that produce small quantities of products or newly apply cameras have to use ready-made products from China rather than making and using the desired form. In this case, technical support is often lacking, and it is difficult to review issues that arise due to cameras in advance when developing products. I decided to start a business because I thought I could target a niche market in an industrial structure where existing module companies do not provide support due to small quantities.”
After founding the company, CEO Kim said, “I feel a sense of accomplishment when I personally develop the ideas I had while working at the company on ‘how to meet customer needs’ and when my thoughts are proven right through technical support.”
ModigenceVision members are all developers, consisting of hardware, optical, and mechanical design engineers who can develop 3D cameras and peripheral devices, as well as software personnel who can develop 3D vision systems, algorithms, and applications.
Regarding future plans, CEO Kim said, “ModigenceVision will launch various special cameras, starting with 3D cameras, which are the basis of vision systems required by various industries. We will present a digital twin-based platform to the world by grafting vision algorithms centered on hardware-based camera systems.”
“Until now, vision systems have been in a two-dimensional world. However, this world is composed of three dimensions. ModigenceVision will present technology that can project real-world space as it is into digital three dimensions.”

[Han Kyung-Job & Joy = Reporter Lee Jin-ho] Modigence Vision is a startup that provides customized camera modules and solutions. It was established by CEO Kim Dae-hee (43) in June 2023.
CEO Kim earned a doctorate in video engineering by majoring in video processing and computer vision, and has worked at Samsung Electronics’ camera module manufacturer, “Treega,” for about seven years.
CEO Kim introduced, “Modigence Vision is a combination of the Gyeongsang dialect ‘Modi’, which means ‘to gather’, and ‘divergence’, which means ‘to gather and dissipate’ technology.”
Camera modules are used in many products, but additional technical support is required for actual product application. For example, there should be technical support for camera operation, such as ISP tuning, driver ringing-up, etc. And depending on the characteristics of the product, various conditions such as the shape and size of the module, the angle of view, and the interface must be met.
“In order to apply the camera module to the product, the customer must have prior camera technology. For example, in the case of Samsung Electronics, camera-related technologies are more complicated than expected, as there is a separate camera lab. ModigenceVision helps customers apply cameras to new products through all relevant technical support, as well as developing and manufacturing 2D or 3D camera modules that can meet their needs.”
Currently, two 5M RGB modules, one ToF Camera, SerDes board, UVC board, and viewer programs will be developed and promoted and sold. In addition, more specifications of camera and technical support services will be provided.
Modigence Vision has ToF sensor-based 3D camera development and manufacturing technology and will launch 3D cameras in the second half of 2024 under the brand name ‘MARU’. This product can replace Intel’s ‘Real Sense’, which is the most representative of 3D cameras, and has better performance than ‘Real Sense’ in terms of measurement distance and accuracy.
“Camera modules are used as a part of electronics and we need to meet industry players who need cameras rather than general public relations and marketing strategies. So, we are currently attracting customers based on the developed prototype products. In the future, we will be able to meet more customers through exhibitions, homepages, articles, and more.”
Currently, Modigence Vision has signed or is discussing development and mass production contracts with delivery robots, wearable devices, and logistics industry system companies as customers.
How did CEO Kim start his own business? “The structure of South Korea’s camera module industry is focused on mass production, such as mobile and automotive, and is focused on manufacturing capabilities rather than self-development. In this case, technical support is often not available, and it is difficult to review the issues caused by the camera during product development. I thought we could target a niche market with an industrial structure that is not supported by existing module companies because it is small. In particular, in the case of ToF camera, one of the strengths, when selling camera modules alone, the customer identified the problem that it was difficult to apply to the product and decided that the ToF camera system should be built and sold to solve this problem. Based on this judgment, we are currently discussing collaboration agreements with large companies as well.”
After the start-up, CEO Kim said, “I feel rewarded when I develop my own concerns about ‘how to meet the needs of customers’, which I thought about while working at the company, and prove one by one that my thoughts are not wrong through technical support.”
Modigence Vision consists of all four development personnel, including CEO Kim. All of them are members with more than 10 years of development experience related to cameras and have experience from development to mass production.
Regarding future plans, CEO Kim said, “We will continue to research and develop so that cameras can be easily applied to more fields.” “We want to become a company that advances into innovative industries such as AR, VR and metaverse by researching and developing elemental technologies and systems in the computer vision field based on camera modules and manufacturing as well as developed cameras.”
