Customize the ‘eye’ of the industry with domestic solutions

Pangyo Startup Zone is the nation’s largest start-up support cluster established in 2017 by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to foster promising startups in new industries, and is currently jointly operated by the Korea Startup Promotion Agency and the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center. It has established itself as a center of the start-up ecosystem as it can enjoy high-quality acceleration and investment attraction opportunities at the Gyeonggi Innovation Center. Meet the CEO of a tenant company who dreams of becoming a unicorn in the future.

[2025 Pangyo Start-up Zone Interview 3] Kim Dae-hee, CEO of ModigenceVision

As automation and intelligent innovation accelerate throughout the industry, 3D vision technology that replaces the human eye is emerging as a key infrastructure. The size of the global 3D machine vision market is expected to grow from about $2.5 billion in 2023 to more than $7 billion by 2030 with an average annual growth rate of nearly 15%. In particular, demand in B2B industries such as industrial robots, logistics automation, and smart factories is on the rise. In particular, the Asia-Pacific region is leading investment in 3D sensing technology, focusing on manufacturing industries such as semiconductors and displays.

Amid this trend, domestic startups that overcome the limitations of uniform global solutions and provide integrated hardware and AI (artificial intelligence) software optimized for the customer environment are drawing attention. Founded in 2023, “ModigenceVision” is creating a new wind in the market with “customizing 3D vision solutions” tailored to the complex and diverse needs of industrial sites.

Q. What kind of business is it

ModigenceVision is a combination of the Gyeongsang dialect of “gathering” and “divergence.” It contains the management philosophy of “creating new values by gathering technologies.” We are a B2B company that develops and delivers 3D camera-based hardware platforms and AI-based 3D vision solutions customized for 3D vision solutions. With recent advances in AI, attempts to apply 3D vision solutions in various fields are increasing. We integrate 3D vision technology and expand it to AI to build the core infrastructure of intelligent robots and smart systems, and provide products and technologies for customers to use it customarily. Under the philosophy that perfect hardware must be preceded in order to implement perfect software, we are focusing on optimizing hardware and software.

Q. What is the main business service and how does it work

AI-based 3D vision solutions are key. It can be said to be a smart vision technology company that realizes automation, efficiency, and intelligence across the industry. Its main items are ToF (Time-of-Flight) 3D camera hardware platforms and customized vision solutions, expanding their application in logistics, robots, and smart factories.

Our company’s 3D camera generates 3D images in real time by quickly and accurately measuring the distance to the object based on the ToF sensor. In addition, self-developed AI algorithms are combined to perform precise vision processing even in complex environments such as volume recognition, spatial analysis, and object identification. The ToF method calculates the distance by measuring the time when light is reflected back from the object, which is advantageous for real-time processing and provides stable performance even in environments with complex lighting. But we also offer stereo methods. This is because the stereo method is highly utilized depending on the application field and the characteristics of the product. In addition to simply detecting the optimal route in the logistics system, AI can efficiently manage loading, storage, and movement.

The key is to create hardware optimized for the application. It’s not just about buying a camera and connecting it to USB. The desired resolution or specific function should be fixed according to the environment, and the function and performance of the hardware should be supported according to the needs of the application such as measurement distance.

Q. I’m curious about the history of establishing a business

It was established in 2023 with the goal of advancing the future of smart automation through the popularization and commercialization of industrial 3D vision technology. We noted that while existing 3D vision solutions are useful in formalized environments, they show limitations in the diversity and complexity of industrial sites. In particular, as most of the domestic camera module companies moved to China, there was a great sense of problem that there was no company that made proper industrial cameras in Korea. I wanted to create a foundation for other 3D vision companies to minimize their hardware concerns and focus on their businesses.

As the existing global solution pursues versatility, it is difficult to apply on-site customization and has a high cost structure. Our company started its business with the goal of “Let’s provide an integrated 3D camera hardware platform and AI vision solution optimized for the user environment.”

Starting with the selection of a preliminary start-up package in 2023, the corporation was established on June 22. Starting in 2024, the company has been conducting PoC related to Hanwha Vision and logistics systems, and aims to mass-produce them in 2026. It also aims to develop a camera that is registered as a vendor of Samsung Electronics and enters medical devices, complete production at the end of this year, and mass-produce it in the first half of next year. This year, technology was recognized through the selection of IBK Changgong, the selection of outstanding companies in the venture camp of the Korea Technology Guarantee Fund, and the award of the World IT Show 2025 Innovation Award. Participation in CES 2026 next year has been confirmed, and an application is also being prepared to win the Innovation Award.

Q. What is the current market situation and competitiveness

The global 3D vision system market is expected to grow to more than $7 billion by 2030. Although the existing market was led by global companies focused on general-purpose products, Korean companies are receiving positive reviews for being able to quickly build a system optimized for the actual industrial environment by combining a platform that can be designed on-site and AI solutions.

The biggest strength is platform-based customization. It provides optimal design from camera hardware to software by analyzing the structure, illumination, distance, and temperature of the site. It is a method of making a lineup of resolution, angle of view, processor, and interface that customers want in advance and suggesting and testing them. Because of this, it is meaningless to divide the fields. Our company is not just a solution company, but a company whose consulting capabilities are important.

In addition, our company’s products are designed based on Edge Computing, allowing real-time data processing in the field without server interworking. Cloud computing, which is popular these days, has clear limitations in industrial sites where real-time processing is important. As soon as data is transferred to the cloud, it is bound to be slower than running directly on physical hardware. We provide integrated hardware, software, communication modules, and UI as a single platform to reduce the development period and deployment cost of our customers. Collaboration with Samsung Electronics and Hanwha Vision proves this.

Q. Please let me know the current status of investment attraction and new business plans in the future

It attracted seed investment from accelerators in 2024, and accumulated investment so far is worth about 400 million won. The Pre-A round is currently underway, and in the second half of 2026, it aims to attract follow-up investments worth 5 to 6 billion won through the Series-A round. Next year’s sales target is 5 billion won to 7 billion won, and the insufficient funds are also considered to operate facility funds through the Small and Medium Venture Business Promotion Corporation.

It also plans to launch a subscription-type service in the form of a service-type vision (VaaS) in 2026. It is an integrated package model that provides data collection, analysis, visualization, and operational automation. It is planning to launch a real-time volume metric system in 2028, which will be an innovation in 3D vision. In the mid- to long-term, it aims to list technical special cases around 2030 by achieving annual sales of 10 billion won and expanding its production base.

Q. What helped you as a resident of the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center

I moved in in the first half of 2025 and received various consulting and demo day opportunities such as law, accounting, marketing, and patents as well as space support. This became a turning point in practical commercialization, where technology development leads to actual customer acquisition and investment attraction. In particular, regular strategic coaching by professional mentors was of great help in finding customers, sales strategies, and pitching advancement. The support and network of Gyeonggi Changgyeong served as a decisive catalyst for early technology startups to leap to the scale-up stage. In the future, we will continue to work with Gyeonggi Changgyeong to become a vision technology company that opens the future of the industry.
